wbxTop 10 EPL Betting Upsets since 2010

Betting on the Premier League can often be unpredictable and occasionally, you can pick up some

excellent prices on the betting exchanges. Here are ten of the biggest EPL upsets in recent years

together with the odds applicable at the time.

Dec 31, 2011 Manchester United 2:3 Blackburn

Blackburn ruined Sir Alex Ferguson’s 70th birthday with a 3-2 win at Old Trafford at odds of 20.58.

Rovers raced into a two goal lead but a Dimitar Berbatov double levelled the scores. United seemed

the side most likely to win but a late Grant Hanley goal sealed the points for the visitors.

Nov 14, 2010 Chelsea 0:3 Sunderland

Odds of 14.47 dropped in for lucky punters backing this shock outcome. Chelsea were the league

leaders but went behind early on to a Nedum Onuoha strike and with Sunderland’s keeper Craig

Gordon in top form, goals from Asamoah Gyan and on loan striker Danny Welbeck secured an

amazing victory for the Black Cats.

Dec 31, 2012 Chelsea 1:3 Aston Villa

Chelsea capitulated at home two years later to a struggling Villa side who delivered betting profits at

12.18. Everything was going to plan as Didier Drogba opened the scoring from the spot but the West

London club succumbed to goals from Stephen Ireland, Stiliyan Petrov and Darren Bent.

Sep 25, 2010 Arsenal 2:3 West Brom

This alarming defeat came in at odds of 12.16: Arsenal were under pressure from the first whistle

and a Peter Odemwingie goal broke the deadlock. Further goals from Odemwingie and Jerome

Thomas made it 3-0 while a late double from Samir Nasri was no more than a consolation.

Aug 28, 2010 Tottenham 0:1 Wigan

Spurs can often be vulnerable at home but this defeat against Wigan was one of the biggest shocks,

coming in at a figure of 11.88. Tottenham were challenging for a top four place while Wigan were

battling relegation but a solitary Ben Watson goal won it for the Latics.

May 19, 2013 Man City 2:3 Norwich

That same price of 11.88 could be obtained on a win for the Canaries as City ended a disappointing

defence of their Premiership title. Jonny Howson’s brilliant individual goal was enough to secure the

points.

Mar 24, 2012 Liverpool 1:2 Wigan

Wigan provided another shock in 2012 to deliver a profit at 11.65. Gary Caldwell’s winner secured

victory after Luis Suarez had equalised Shaun Maloney’s earlier penalty.

Jan 2, 2013 Chelsea 0:1 QPR

QPR were relegated at the end of 2012-13 but not before this memorable win which dropped in at 11.79. Shaun Wright-Phillips’ late goal was enough to separate the sides.

Apr 16, 2012 Arsenal 1:2 Wigan

Wigan were at it again in April 2012, effectively ending Arsenal’s title challenge. Jordi Gomez scored the winner to deliver a superb profit at 10.99.

Sep 28 2013 Man Utd 1:2 West Brom

The most recent shock came in September 2013 at the start of a barren period for beleaguered United boss David Moyes. Saido Berahino secured West Brom’s first win over their opponents for 29 years at great odds of 10.72.
