International Football Betting: Scotland v England and best combination bets

International Football Betting: Scotland v England and best combination bets

Scotland v England headlines the summer international football break as the two rivals go head to head in a World Cup qualification clash in Glasgow. Football betting fans have for years sided with England as the favourites in this encounter — but there are confident Scots out there expecting a home victory on Saturday afternoon.

England beat Scotland 3-0 at Wembley in this reverse fixture back in November but that does not mean this game should be dismissed as a foregone conclusion. There are also plenty of other international matches taking place over the next week, with great opportunities to win massive combination bets. So let’s take a look at the best tips for the week…

Scotland v England: Form guide

International matches at the end of the domestic season are always strange. Players can be forgiven for thinking they’re already on holiday and the competition dies a bit. But not in this fixture. Saturday sees rivals Scotland and England collide and there are plenty expecting a feisty match at Hampden Park.

Scotland have not enjoyed the best start to World Cup qualifying but did beat Slovenia 1-0 in their last outing. That will give manager Gordon Strachan confidence and they are 5.50 to beat England.

Of course, England are favourites and Gareth Southgate has a stellar squad to choose from for this match. England are unbeaten in qualifying and have lost just once since Iceland dumped them out of Euro 2016. They are 1.70 to win.

History suggests England will win this match, and comfortably. England have won their last three encounters with Scotland, scoring three goals in each game. They are 12.50 to claim a 3-0 result. In fact, Scotland can boast just one home goal against England since May 1985. A goal on Saturday would shake the Hampden roof and, what with England’s slightly flimsy defence, both teams to score at 2.28 is a good bet.

Scotland v England: First goalscorer

Few will look past Harry Kane to score the first goal on Saturday. Tottenham star Kane was top scorer in the Premier League with 29 goals. He finished the season with a flurry of 11 goals in eight games. Injury meant Kane didn't feature much in England’s autumn World Cup qualifiers but he will be back for this clash and 4.00 to score first.

As for Scotland, Leigh Griffiths is 9.00 favourite for them to net the opener. However, form suggests the goalscoring duties may fall to West Ham’s Robert Snodgrass. He has already scored three times in qualifying and is 7.00 to net at any time. Snodgrass will take all set-pieces for Scotland, making this a fine bet.

International match betting: Combination bets

France, Portugal, Switzerland, Bosnia four-fold

World Cup qualifying matches start on Friday, with some great combination bets to be created while you’re watching the football live. France and Portugal both play on Friday and should be included in any combination bet. However, not necessarily to win! France play in Sweden and a draw is possible there at 3.60. Portugal should have not problem at Latvia and are 1.14 to win. Combine them with Switzerland (1.18 to win in the Faroe Islands) and Bosnia (1.60 to beat Greece) and €10 gets you a €77 potential payout.

Slovenia, Poland, Montenegro, Germany +7.5 goals four-fold

Saturday’s four-fold combination bet is a little trickier. Northern Ireland, Denmark and Slovakia are all favourites to win their games — but they’re all away from home. They are best to be avoided. But bet on Slovenia, Poland, Montenegro to win PLUS +7.5 goals on Germany v San Marino and €10 has a potential payout of €44.

Serbia, Turkey, Spain, Italy +4.5 goals four-fold

Sunday’s combination bet, meanwhile, is where you can really have some fun. Serbia are 1.73 to beat Wales, who may not have Bale fit, and are therefore a decent bet. Turkey are away to Kosovo, who are still finding their feet in international football. Italy should at least score five against Liechtenstein, while Spain face an easy task away in Macedonia. That €10 four-way combination has a €38 potential payout.
